What is the difference between AC and DC charging?
AC stands for "alternating current". Accelerated charging is usually possible at public AC charging stations. Depending on the type of vehicle and the charging station, charging at such a charging station takes between one and eight hours. As a rule, you need to bring your own cable to charge at public AC charging stations. DC stands for "direct current". DC charging stations generally provide a higher charging capacity than AC charging stations, and most vehicles with a DC plug can be charged with higher charging currents. Your charging time is therefore reduced to between 20 and 90 minutes, depending on the electric car and charging station. For safety reasons, the cables of DC charging stations are permanently connected to the charging station.
